Exploring the Elegance of Glasgow 1770 Cognac Cask Finish Batch No. 2
This six year old release of Glasgow 1770 Cognac Cask Finish Batch No. 2 showcases exceptional spirit and wood management. The whisky is a combination of three unpeated Cognac casks and two peated casks, resulting in a 'lightly peated' expression. Initially matured in first fill ex-bourbon casks, the whisky was then finished for 3 years and 4 months in exceptional Cognac casks, imparting notes of sweet smoke, rich honey, poached pear, dried apple, and vanilla ice cream.
Part of the Glasgow 1770 Small Batch Series, this limited-edition release highlights the versatility of the distillery's whisky-making styles across peated, unpeated, and triple distilled single malts. The Cognac influence from the finishing casks adds fresh fruit, caramel, toffee, and a subtle nuttiness to the flavor profile.
This batch is a marriage of five casks, with two holding peated single malt and three holding unpeated single malt. After an initial maturation in ex-bourbon barrels, the whisky underwent an extended secondary maturation period in Cognac casks, resulting in a complex and characteristically fruity release with a balance of sweet smoke, rich vanilla, and layers of honeycomb and dark fruit.
Bottled at 58% ABV, with only 2250 bottles available, Glasgow 1770 Cognac Cask Finish Batch No. 2 offers a unique and flavorful experience for whisky enthusiasts. The marriage of different cask influences and whiskies culminates in a harmonious and intriguing expression that showcases the artistry of the distillery's craftsmanship.
